Night Skies, Stars and Christmas Robins.
Week 4: This week brought to a conclusion the night skies theme, as well as introducing Christmas into the mix – it was all about stars!! After spending the previous weeks looking at and drawing stars, the children were introduced to the ‘technical’ challenge of this workshop block – simple embroidery, or as I like to call it ‘stitch a doodle’!! Everyone was given a 3″ embroidery hoop and asked to design a star related pattern. After about 10 mins of thinking and doodling the children decided on their design which they then drew onto the embroidery material. They were encouraged to then ‘draw’ with the thread – to either follow the line of their design or to ‘colour-in’ with the gorgeous colours they had selected. It was lovely to see little fingers getting to grips with the simple sewing movements as they created their festive designs.
